Ashbera — Manhattan
A travel carrier for small dogs.
Fifty will be made, by hand, in Manhattan.
The workshop is in the Garment District, in its twenty-first year.
The floor is four layers, each sourced on its own, then stacked and sewn into one piece. Its edge rises on all four sides. A square of it was made first, on its own, and tested with water. No water came through.
The vent runs the length of each side panel, set behind a fold of canvas a little over half an inch deep. Nothing of it shows from the side.
The flap was not in the first drawing. Four closures were drawn for it, and three were set aside before anything was cut. The magnets that stayed are of different strengths, guided into place by a small piece, with a pad behind them against the canvas.
The house mark is pressed into the leather inside, in its own tone, without foil or contrast. It reads best when light crosses it at an angle.
The one piece made so far held its shape everywhere but along the top, which gave a little when carried. It stays as it is. Another will be made alone, and nothing more will be made until its top holds.
I designed the carrier. I have worked with the workshop since the fall of 2025.
Twice, everything was redrawn from nothing. Since then, the drawings have changed one problem at a time. They forbid Velcro anywhere on the piece.
